Launches HIV Testing Week at the end of November to support World AIDS Day

The Hong Kong AIDS Foundation (“HKAF”) has expressed concern over the cumulative number of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (“HIV”) infections hitting 7,534 as of 30 September 2015, as reported by the Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health. The figure represents an increase of 10% compared with the same period last year.

The report also saw a substantial increase in newly diagnosed HIV infections in the 20-29 age bracket, indicating that those infected are getting younger. To tackle this rising trend, HKAF partnered with local comic artist, Kong Kee, to release a series of comics on safe sex via various electronic platforms. Through the humorous character, “Jin Dor Man”, HKAF aims at strengthening AIDS awareness among the younger generation, and eliminating any misconceptions about HIV transmission.

In support of World AIDS Day, which is on 1 December, HKAF will launch the HIV Testing Week from 29 November to 5 December. HKAF will provide free, anonymous and confidential HIV antibody tests as well as counselling service to the public at various locations, including Shau Kei Wan, Central and Jordan, to raise public awareness of HIV and promote HIV testing among people who may have had unsafe sex.

Please call 2513 0513 or contact HKAF via the mobile application LINE (ID: hivtesting) for more details.
