Publicity and Fundraising Events

To curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, the involvement and participation of the community is vital. Every year, the Foundation launches a number of territory-wide publicity and fundraising events, aiming to mobilise public participation, promote awareness of HIV/AIDS and raise funds for AIDS education and services.

World AIDS Day 2020 Campaign

Hong Kong AIDS Foundation (the Foundation) launched the World AIDS Day 2020 Campaign, including an online charity competition, “Your Original Artwork/Snapshot for a Stigma-Free Society” Charity Post (the Charity Post) and an educational roadshow “世界愛滋病日 全民防「疫」抗疫”, aiming to convey 2 key messages to the society: 1. Safe Sex for HIV Prevention; 2. Support People Living with HIV (PLHIV) for a Stigma-free society.

The Charity Post was open for public participation and there were a lot of meaningful & insightful artworks/snapshots posted on Facebook and Instagram throughout the campaign period.

The artworks and snapshots were assessed by the panel, including Mr. Ray YEUNG, an award-winning filmmaker cum Executive Director of 31st Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (the HKLGFF), Mr. Joe LAM, Festival Director of HKLGFF, Mr. Terrance CHUI (aka SiuFay 小肥), a well-known pop singer and Ms. Eris LAU, Chief Executive of the Foundation; and below are the selected award winning pieces:

“Run for an AIDS Free World” Charity Run 2019

The Foundation organised “Run for an AIDS Free World” Charity Run (the Charity Run) in the Sunny Bay Promenade on Sunday, 1 December 2019 (World AIDS Day 2019), being unprecedentedly combined with the traditional World AIDS Day’s memorial activity. The objectives of the Charity Run were to: 1) raise fund; 2) promote care and support; 3) raise public awareness; and 4) create a caring community for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The officiating guests Dr. Leong Che Hung, the Chairman, Ms. Pansy Yu, a member of the Executive Board, Ms. Eris Lau, Chief Executive, Mr. Sing Lam and Ms. Angel Lam, Inclusion Ambassadors, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and raised the red ribbons together; with an implication in eradicating the discrimination and stigmatisation of the infected in HIV for a stigma-free society.

The Charity Run consisted of 10km timing race and 5km run with more than 400 racers jogging along the splendid sea and sky, and striving for results with flying colours.

Bus Advertising

We created a new word “Sextitude”, which is composed of two words, “Sex” and “Attitude”, to urge the public to keep an open mind yet positive attitude towards sex and to bear in mind the need to use a condom during all sexual intercourse to protect themselves and their partners. The slogan “Love with Sextitude” was promoted through bus advertisement, hoping to spread this positive message in a wider range.

HIV Anti-body Rapid Test Promotion Video

Many people are curious about how does the HIV rapid test work, especially the HIV self-test (home test). We created a short video, introducing the procedures, how rapid tests work and how to read the results correctly:

1. Rapid HIV Antibody Blood Test
The Foundation has always been providing free, anonymous and confidential rapid HIV antibody blood test. Blood drop will be taken from fingertip and result can be seen within 15 minutes.

2. Rapid HIV Antibody Oral Fluid Test
Rapid HIV Antibody Oral Fluid Test allows people doing their own test at home or anywhere they feel convenient. However, without the well-trained staff member’s assistance, comprehensive psychological counselling and follow-up service, users are strongly recommended to pay extra attention to the procedures of oral fluid test.
